Question:
I've always had seasonal allergies but never recall having the symptoms I've
been having lately. I've been really tired and fatigued to the point where
I have no energy to do anything after work and I lose my energy about early
afternoon. This past weekend I took so many naps and I'm not really a big
nap person. My whole back, ribs, sides and shoulderblades ached all
weekend. Could this soreness be due to continual sneezing? I sneeze alot.
I have major sinus congestion and have the allergy "racoon eyes". I have a
cough that's very dry. My nose doesn't run a whole lot. I just mainly
sneeze alot. Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who's literally drained from
allergies. I've recently started taking Allegra, which I've done in the
past and it seemed to work, so hopefully this feeling will pass soon.
Answer:
Yes, allergies can make you very tired. Make sure you get enough
sleep, eat properly, and drink LOTS of water. If the exhaustion
doesn't pass when the allergies do, see your doctor. Yes, extreme fatiguue is one of my allergy symptoms too!
I didn't sneeze at all, so I can't respond from experience to
the achiness from sneezing, but it sure seems possible.
My nose didn't run at all - at least visibly - it was continually
running down the back of my throat...this is probably the
same with you.
If you are not under the care of an allergist, ask for a
referral. I have been on allergy shots for about 3 years
now, and the fatigue has decreased alot!
Fatigue is absolutely one of the syptoms of
allergies....especially if there is sneezing involved.
Sneezing repeatedly takes a lot out of the body...drains
you...all of those muscles contracting over and over...and
you simultaneously trying to stop them....your body needs
those naps. Yes I had these problems for years, along with my allergies to most
substances, I was diagnosed Hypothyroid two years ago
after I was having the problems you have, I now have been diagnosed (March
99) as having CFS, the trouble still persists.
I feel really tired all the time, if I do any work I ache everywhere
afterwards, my sneezes and sore throats never seem to leave me, I am on
medication which makes it slightly more bearable but I could do with a cure.
I would certainly have a word with your doctor if the problems persist.
Could you tell us what CFS stands for?
I get really achy after doing alot of physical work, but for me, it is
not related to my allergies. I'm in my early 40's, and it began in
my early 30's. I find that taking potassium and calcium before
gardening for 3+ hours, etc. and lots of water keeps the achiness
from starting. Or if I forget to do that, then 2 naproxen sodium
tablets afterwards.
