Question:
I recently started seeing an allergist, who tells me that there is a
new formulation for allergy shots which is much longer-lasting, requiring
shots once every two weeks instead of once or twice a week.
Does anyone have experience with these shots?
Answer:
I have been taking shots for over 3 years now. The first year I had to take them
once per week, next year once every two weeks, etc. I am not sure if they are
necessarily better (longer lasting). It probably depends on the individual (your weight, height, type of allergy, etc). My guess is that every allergy specialist
has his/her own method treatment which includes mixing of small portions of
allergens to make the vaccination extract. Try asking your doctors about it.
I've been taking allergy shots for nearly 20 years. I take them every
6 days because 5 days is too often and 7 days is not often enough
(during the spring, summer, and autumn). During the winter i can take
them every 10 days. I have a co-worker who gets them every month
during the winter and every two weeks during the allergy season. I've
not heard of any new technique which reduces the shots to every two
weeks for everyone. As you can see by comparing my posting with
others' who take allergy shots, the frequency at which you receive
injections is dependent upon the severity of your allergies. I
haven't heard of anything new on the subject.
