Question:
the reason cp/cpps very seldom responds to conventional treatment is
that drs
are always treating the prostate when very few of us have prostate
problems, bacterial infections,or inflammation of the prostate. why do
you think broccoli juice helps a lot of us?it isn,t doing anything for
the prostate,it is soothing the bowels. why are so many of us helped
by laying off wheat or changing our diets. it causes changes in the
bowels and eases the symptoms.
i can go 12 hrs without food and my pain always gets better.i can 24
hrs without food and my pain is almost gone.it has got to be a problem
with the bowels causing deferred pain into the testicles, rectum, and
lower back.
why do so many of us feel pretty good in the morning only to have the
pain return later in the day.because we have been all night without
food and the pain starts easing off, only to start eating again after
we rise and wait for the pain to return.why do herbs and supplements
help a lot of us. they are not doing any thing for the prostate.think
about where they end up in the bowels.
again they are soothing the bowels and easing the pain. i think the
reason abx,s
help some us is because they temporarily heal the bowel problem.only
to have the problem return after the abx's have run their course. i
think if dr's started treating the bowel problem we might have
something to look forward too.
Answer:
This is a very good point , and I can only recall one other person making this
point on this group in the past. It certainly was true in my case. Not eating
anything would lead to a rapid improvement in all symptoms, not only in the
prostate but also the tiredness, depression, muscle pain, sinusitis, bowel
disturbance and numerous other niggling symptoms. Absolutely, this has nothing to do with bacteria. It has to do with (my guess)
an immune system gone awry, mast cells proliferating and degranulating
(perhaps), atopy (perhaps) -- all caused by a genetic predisposition coupled
with, who knows, an overclean environment (see recent theories on asthma
etiology).
Altogether not something urologists should be studying or treating, you may
think.
***I'd love to buy in to the allergy theory, but I haven't come across
any experimental evidence to support it. The cytokines most commonly
found to be elevated in the prostatic fluid of CPPS patients are the
Th1 Cytokines, TNF-alpha and IL-1 Beta. This is the opposite of what
would be expected for an allergic reaction, where a Th2 cytokine
profile would dominate. I'm not suggesting that an allergy is
definitely not involved in some cases; I just haven't come across any
evidence for it. By the way, fasting has endocrine effects, which may be more relevant
to the improvements you are describing than the elimination of
potential food antigens.
Aha! Yes, BUT we need to consider the different cytokine profile of non-IgE
food allergy. What about, for instance, Type IV hypersensitivity, often linked
to Crohn's in research? More importantly, what about Type III (serum sickness),
where there is a substantial production of antibodies as a reaction to antigens
in the blood (the two link up to form "immune complexes", which drift around in
the blood, tending to settle in poorly perfused areas and causing chronic
inflammation)? Type II hypersensitivity underlies autoimmune diseases like SLE.
It is also possible for food particles to enter the blood stream (leaky gut
syndrome, recently endorsed by research) and form these same immune complexes. The subject is a vast and complex one, and I am quite sure, from personal
experience (and several experiments), that it is an important, maybe key, part
of the mystery surrounding CP/CPPS. Once again, let me recommend this book:

Sitting or perineal pain seems to be most common. The prostate is
constantly emptying its secretions into the urethra. There is no doubt
in my mind that my prostate is not functioning right and these
secretions could be very irritative to the urethra and entire area.
The happiest men I know have had their prostate removed and are not
taking pain pills. Again many of us experience urethral pain after
ejaculation. Burning ejacs also point to this constant irritation. My
patience is wearing thin. Sure keep your prostate and take your pain
pills till you die if they dont destroy your kidneys and liver first.
Let us hear from the men who have had their prostates removed who are
painfree and happy.
