Question:
Has anyone heard of anything that could relieve "hayfever" and that
does not contain anti-histamines (which make you real drowsy).
Further to this, is there a FAQ for this website that covers general
topics?
Answer:
There's a medicinal and a culinary herbfaq; I'll post them next weekend. If you
don't want to wait you can always get them from my website or ftp space (see
.sig). My husband used to suffer from hayfever pretty severely and is now doing
quite well. The things that I have found that have helped him the most are
freeze-dried nettles in capsule form. Regular dried nettles or tincture
don't work very well. If you can get the leaves fresh, that would also be
great. We buy Ecclectic's capsules. The quality is consistently good.
Quercitin as a dietary supplement provides good support and can help
lessen your histamine reaction. He is also taking fresh ragweed tincture
(ironic, I know). The botanical name for ragweed is ambrosia and it is
often marketed under this name. One dropperful (30 drops) will provide
relief from the burning kind of hayfever (your nose feels dry and burning
but its still wet) for several hours.
Its not easy to find. I generally get it from an herbalist I know who
makes it, but we have found a good commercial preparation by Vitality
Works. Their address is 126 Quincy NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108, USA. They
could probably tell you somewhere to get it if you can't find it locally.
I have an audio tape on people who have found
relief with herbal compounds.Would u like me to send it to you? I have to agree that Pollinosan works pretty well in the Spring, but
seems to be less effective in ragweed season... you might try eating
foods that are so-called "mucousless"...lovely name, isn't it? It does
help. however, but is a longer-term type of treatmrnt.
