Question:
I'm going to do another elimination diet to see if it helps with gas
volume (and the hideous, monstrous smell). I was thinking of trying to eat nothing but brown rice for a week to
see if my gas clears up. Or should I do white rice? the thing is,
either way, I wouldn't be getting much protein (unless brown rice has
more protein than I think).
What can I eat that will give me enough protein that I'm not
hypoglycemic (shaky and stuff) as is what tends to happen to me when I
eat lots of white rice. But it has to be stuff I don't usually eat and
I usually eat chicken, tofu, turkey, fish to get my protein.
In general, any suggestions on an elimination diet? I know people get
all hyper about the "add one thing back at a time" but I'm not
conerning myself with that yet. One has to see if symptoms clear up
first before the adding back in can be relevant.
Answer:
I might try eliminating the tofu first, have you tried that? Tofu used to
give me a lot of gas, and I didn't have CD in the days in which I ate it.
As to your question, I'm sure you know brown rice has more fiber. Fiber
would bother me. It is, of course, your choice. Eating a lot of white rice would tend (in general) to make one
HYPERglycemic due to the carb load - unless one eats such huge quantities
as to go into insulin shock, but that's unlikely.
When I was on an elimination diet (as per docs orders) I was to start with
turkey broth first and add rice later. I'll see if I can dig up the exact
order and timing I used. It really helped me find some things in my diet
that were making me feel worse -- the biggest surprise -- tomatoes! I mix 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 white rice when I cook it. I haven't had any
trouble digesting it, and the brown rice gives it some flavor (and a few
nutrients). I use a steamer and also add herbs and sometimes cook it in chicken broth
(homemade or it gets too salty).
I don't know, off hand. It's a poison, a plant in the nightshade family.
Potatoes, tomatoes, tobacco, eggplant and petunias all are in the nightshade
family, as well as many herbs. Obviously, not all are poisonous, but the
belladonna is there, none the less.
