Question:
My Dr. perscribed claritin reditabs to help with outbreaks of hives I get when
drinking alcohol. I was wondering if ther are any side effects I should be
aware of.
Answer:
If it's just the standard Claritin, I don't know of any severe side effects.
If he has you on Claritin D, then there is the possibility of developing or
aggravating high blood pressure conditions. I take Claritin and it makes me very thirsty and I urinate more than usual. My
son takes it and says it makes him a little sleepy. Other than that, we have
have experienced no other side effects from Claritin. Claritin gives me massive headaches. That is one of the known side affects
that CVS' info sheet listed, too. If I find the sheet, I'll give the info. Claritin D makes me "a little anorexic" but it's better than the allergies.
I confess that if my alleries were caused by drinking alcohol, I would stop
drinking alcohol. Each Claritin D tablet contains 640Mg of pseudephedrin HCl, which is the
key to its sleep destroying powers. It also elevates blood pressure well
above normal readings. Claritin is also available without the decongestant. Check with your
physician for possible drug interaction, if you are taking other
medications, as well.
