Question:
Has anyone here tried the over the counter allergy maedication "Zicam"? It
looks like it's just a mixture of herbal rememdies and such. Has it helped
with allergy relief? Any complications with other medications such as
antihistamines, nasal steroid sprays, afrin, irrigation, any reported
irritation, anything?
Answer:
My husband just started using "Zicam For Colds" this week. I bought the Zicam
for allergies also, but thought we'd try the Zicam for colds first since a
relative suggested it. This is the ONLY product that has helped slow the post nasal drip. It has cut
the drip by two thirds. I didn't think it would help. Thought it was another
snake oil, but was amazed to find out so quickly that it works for him for some
reason.
Anyway, we cleared up the thick mucus with Guaifenesin capsules several months
ago, but couldn't solve the constant postnasal drippng, and now Zicam seems to
be helping alot. I think we're on to something - for us anyway. I know
everyone has a different situation. Probably won't work for everyone. So glad
to finally get this mess under control.
He was so bad with the thick mucus he would gag in the middle of the night.
The allergy Asthma doctor tried everything he could think of to help my
husband, but nothing helped. The Dr. was going to send him to an Ear Nose
Throat (ENT) specialist next. I have found that the trick is to use it as soon as you have the conscious
thought that you might be getting a cold. If I don't use it immediately, it
doesn't work.
As soon as the cold weather hits, I carry a bottle of it in my purse.
I have never tried the allergy Zicam. Well, that must have been confusing.....I meant to say that I use the original
Zicam for colds successfully. I have not tried the newer formula for allergies.
