Question:
Do you add anything to the water before you steam? My SO has been bothered by
sinus problems...a few days ago I poured some boiling water in a bowl and
threw in a tea bag containing peppermint. She sat over this until it cooled,
and we added more hot water and another bag....Seems to have worked a minor
miracle...I believe the name of the tea was "Cold Care"...it's put out by
a fairly accessible company that has other teas like "Breathe Easy" (great for
my asthma) and "Throat Coat" for the obvious.
Answer:
I was wondering if there are any herbal remedies for sinus?
I moved to Maryland from Western New York last year, and I don't
know if it's the humidity or air quality or what, but I've never, ever had
such awful sinus headaches 'til I got down here.
The pain was so bad that I was sent for a MRI to check for tumors. I was
given Anaproxin, which made me horribly sick and tired. I have to find
something other than running off to steam my face every time one starts,
because when I go back to college, it won't be feasible.
Try garlic-oil capsules. The stronger the better. Use the de-scented
kind if you can (some are mixed with lemon oil, some with parsley). Works
for me. About 2 capsules a day on an empty stomach with a quarter cup
of milk about 2 hours before meals. Try not to burp on anybody. Stay
away from anything your nasal passages may be sensitive/alergic to, such
as pollen, dust, and cigarrette smoke. Have a series of alergy tests if
you like if think you may have an allergy. I did, at least twice several
years apart. The results were consistent and believable, and showed the
annual pattern of my sinusitis, for which I was originally hospitalized
as a young kid.
I find the Novahistex brand of antihistamine/decongestants best for
me, but I feel safer taking garlic, though. A halibut-liver-oil capsule
with the garlic seems to help, too (vitamin A is good for mucous tissues).
