druggies start buying pipes at nice upstanding pipe shops? Wouldn't that by
default turn the fine upstanding pipe shop into a druggie head shop? Thereby
making them a target for the D.O.J.?

Most anything can be modified for drug use. It's not the item, it's the
use of the item. One of the main ingredients for crafting methamphetamine is a chemical that
occurs in many over-the-counter allergy relief medications.. i'm not sure
what the chemical is, but the most common product for use in a meth-lab is
Sudafed. You are thinking of ephedrine. Also needed, Lye, Muratic acid, and
Ether. All of these can be found in house hold ingredients. Pseudoephedrine is the OTC drug of choice, a stereoisomer of ephedrine,
and the common synthesis of methamphetamine takes place through a
reduction of pseudoephedrine in boiling, concentrated Hl. It's not
difficult, but boiling stuff in HI is not MY idea of fun... So if they make all individual components of methamphetamines illegal, then
the chemicals you mentioned would be illegal to posses? Hmm, we use lye for
our pretzles and ether for starting cold engines. That could be problematic.
