Question:
can anyone tell me how i can find out what the pollen count is around
these parts?
Answer:
They are probably the worst that they have been in the
8+ years that I've lived here in NC -- perhaps the worst they have
ever been. In addition to info on how to find out the pollen count, does
anyone know what type of pollen might be the main culprit?
I'm neither a biologist nor a doctor, but I think it's not pollen at
this time of year; most (if not all) plants pollinate in the spring. I'd guess that the likely culprits right now are molds and fungi (and
maybe their spores), in the early stages of the autumn decay. (My
allergy-type [never been in for allergy tests, but I think that's what
they are] symptoms right now are hugely different from the ones I have
in the spring, which I'm pretty sure are from pine pollen.)
I've heard of the stuff and that it's
allergenic but I didn't know about its pollination habits. (In fact,
at least one person has suggested ragweed as the cause of my spring
allergy season; evidently I should do better research.) :-) I'm pretty sure that one of my reactions is to mold-type stuff; and my
statement about pine pollen was based on what other people have said.
(And the timing coincidence.) Is it possible that the respiratory-
tract reaction to the physical aggravation of the pine pollen causes
increased susceptibility to whatever allergens happen to be floating
around at the same time?
