Allergy medication?

Question:
Are there any allergy medication safe for pregnancy? The nurse told me that I can't take any antihistamine and the book WTEWYE suggests that pregnant women should not take any medication for allergy. My allergy is getting worse. It keeps me up all night and this usually is my worst time of the year. Does your doctor recommend anything?

Answer:
My allergies have been awful!!! I could take Sudifed from the very beginning but I wouldn't and I ended up with an sinus infection so I had to take antibotics and they told me to take the sudifed. I was still suffering with my allergies and at 13 weeks the doctor told me I could take actifed, tavist-D, dimmetap, benedryl and etc. Well they still wasn't better and at 19 weeks he told me I could take Seldane-D. And it has been the best thing. He told me not to take them unless I just had to but to take them to get relief. I took 3 and haven't had to take them since. My doctor is a high risk ob and he is afiliated with the University here where they are on top of research more then most of the ob's in the state. I feel for you because it's not fun! My allergies are worst then they have ever been even with my first pregnancy. My OB has allergies and he has really sympathized with me and he said his is worst this year then ever before. Try not to take anything at least the first 3 months. If you do take something after that, have the pharmacist look it up in his book that tells what class the drug is in (for safety in pregnancy). As I recall, Seldane is a higher risk drug (for pregnancy) than Tavist-D. I had the pharmacist look them both up when I was pregnant. I did take a couple Tavist-D after the first trimester. I also found new homes for my 2 precious cats. I found out I was allergic to cats after I got them and I'd had them for years.
