Question:
corn syrup-food allergies?-histamine?-elimination diet?
Answer:
I don't smoke and only occassionally drink alcohol, beer or wine. I
know about the nightshade family - nicotiana (tobacco), eggplant, bell
pepper, tomato, potato, etc. In the past I really hurt myself by not
being a good enough advocate for my own health care. It took me over
four years to fire my primary doctor. The reason was, she kept sending
me to the specialist but did not want to help coordinate my treatment(s). I picked a new primary last May, got to see him for the first time last
August, and have seen him once since then. His idea is to be my health
care coordinator. Get the specialist to do their jobs, report back to
him, and then we all come up with the "solution".
I would like to quit all my meds and start over, but was told that could
be disasterous. This is a long drawn out process, but all I can do is
look forward to my future of good health, not sit here thinking about
the next poison I'm going to put in my mouth. I am reading the "Foods
that Fight Pain" Chapter Two - Food Sensitivity and Inflammatory Pain.
I already knew about trigger foods, kept a food diary for months, and
could not tie anything to the migraines. But, I could tie the IBS
symptom to milk products, sugar, unpeeled apples, and chocolate.
The book says you crave what is making you sick. One of my favorite
things to eat is a large chocolate milk shake, but it's not worth it
anymore. When I did the candida cleanse and had to eliminate sugar from
my diet I got depressed about not finding anything I could eat that I
wanted to eat. I ended up being a sugar nazi for two weeks, then having
a hypoglycemia attack. My nutritionist told me I didn't have to jump
into it quite so enthusiastically. I finished the treatment and have
been forever changed by it in that I can no longer eat something without
reading the label.
Retirement at forty is not in my plans, so I'll keep trying the stuff
that helps and #@*#@! the things that don't!
Actually, you sound like you're on the right track.
Speaking of the right track, I CANNOT BELIEVE
that an M.D. was responsible for the following commentary.

But I encourage you to read it.
And the nightshade family includes the peppers other than
black pepper, paprika, white potatoes, eggplant, tomato,
and tobacco. Just wanted to mention that since you had
noted potato without it being specifically white potato, and
certainly more than bell peppers.
I noted them not for the sake of being 'picky', but for clarification. I am lucky that I like sweet potato, which from all my reading, I found
out is not in the same family as the white potato. I know about the
peppers. My brother grows the hot ones, jalapeno, serano, and habanero.
He makes his own hot sauces, using sea salt and vinegar with the cut
up peppers. The only thing I really eat peppers in is my award winning home made
chili. I use bell and anaheim peppers, kidney and pinto beans, home
grown tomatos, dark chili powder, and a serano powder that my sister
makes for me. It's won several awards, is very time consuming to make,
and now I know I CAN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE! I only make it once a year now
for my Dad.
I've been looking at the Mercola website and signed up for his
newsletter. I might even buy his latest book, Dr. Mercola's Total
Health Cookbook and Program. Another website user helped me realize
that food is energy and not a substitute for being bored, upset, or
lazy. I think I can plan my meals to be healthy and painfree without
going overboard and being obsessed about it. I am thankful for this
website and the people on it who are willing to discuss what has or
hasn't worked for them and I'm willing to wade through the info, use
what I can, and discard the rest.
