Question:
have a 3 year old Golden Retriever that has allergies really bad. The
poor thing itches and scratches and licks himself all day. My vet suggested
today that we change his diet. He is currently eating Nutro Natural Choice Chicken
and Rice. He has also been on Claifornia Natural about a year ago. That
didn't seem to help much then either. They suggested a food (I am not sure
of the manuafacturer) that is made with venison and potatoes. I think it
is by Hill's the maker of Science diet. I am afraid that they are suggesting
this food since they are always pushing Science diet to all the clients and they
are just promoting this product. Does any one have suggestions. I am not sure
what to do. We are trying this step before we take him to a dermatologist.

That Wellness food looks good to me & I've looked at it before.
If he has an allergy to food, it is a food that you have been feeding.
So, if you've been feeding chicken, feed something without chicken, etc.
But, it could be an allergy to the chemicals in the food, or the quality
of the stuff going into making the food.
If this is the case, the Wellness diet should take care of it.
Many, many people are having great results feeding a supplement called the
Missing Link.
In fact, I have a friend with a Golden Retriever who is using it.
There are a couple of good books that may help you understand diet and allergies.
One is called "The Nature of Animal Healing" by Martin Goldstein, D.V.M.
(available thru Amazon.com).
The other is called "The Complete Guide to natural Health for Dogs & Cats"
by Richard Pitcairn, D.V.M.
These books have helped me alot.
